CUL 115 Language and Culture

This course explores diverse aspects of specific country through its portrayal in popular culture (film, television, arts, literature, music sports, Internet, food, fashion, etc.) Students will understand the role of language in shaping the identity of a nation and its influence in history and globalization. In addition to these goals, contemporary issues, youth culture traditions, and national image/values depicted through various means of popular culture will be examined. Students will be evaluated through presentations, participation in cultural events research essays, and critical assessments of relevant texts/material to the subject. This course will trace a specific country's cultural impact on the contemporary world and provide students with a deeper understanding of a society and its customs.
