Non Degree-Seeking Students (Non-Matriculating Status)
Students who hold a high school degree or who have passed a
GED test or High School Proficiency Exam are eligible to take undergraduate
courses for unit credit at the University as a non-matriculated student. Courses in the traditional A.A. degree
program and traditional B.A./B.S. programs are only open to women, with the
exception of nursing. Students complete
a registration form, and the registration needs to be approved by the Registrar’s
Office, the instructor of the course (in consultation with the department
chair), and Academic Advising. Students
may not register until the first day of classes, unless approved by the
Department Chair/Program Director. They
are expected to observe all policies and procedures of the University while in
attendance, including meeting any course prerequisites. In addition, if a student has taken 30 or
more units at the University as a non-matriculated student, the student must
get approval to take any further such units from an appropriate Dean. If, after taking courses at the University, a
student matriculates then they may submit previously taken courses for possible
credit. To receive credit these courses
must satisfy the requirements of the program and meet the approval of the
department chair. Permission to enroll
under a non-matriculating status does not guarantee acceptance to Mount Saint
Mary’s University.
