Career and Professional Development
At Mount Saint Mary’s University, our graduates go on to have productive and meaningful careers in a variety of professions and employment fields. Career and Professional Development (CPD) helps prepare students for all aspect of the career process. Through Handshake, the Mount’s online job and internship board, students can explore job and career opportunities, get personalized full- and part-time employment and internship recommendations, connect with employers, and network with peers. Professional staff help students explore different majors and career options utilizing a variety of resources and services including individual career counseling, career planning courses (SPR 18) and innovative, hands-on programming. Additionally, we support major and career exploration by offering various career assessments.
CPD also supports students with internship and employment searches through 1:1 advising on resume and cover letter, networking opportunities, workshops on interview techniques, and by conducting mock interviews. Students can also meet with fellow students for help with resumes through our Peer Career Advising Program. Career and professional events are available throughout the year and include career and graduate school fairs where students can speak directly with recruiters, nursing career panels, alumnae panels, and a Professional Etiquette Networking Dinner. Career-related workshops include topics such as graduate school, interviewing, resumes and cover letters, the job search, and using social media as a career and networking resource. Additionally, CPD offers student employment opportunities for students awarded Federal Work Study.
