Academic Advisement

Academic Advisement, located at both the Chalon and Doheny campuses, is an essential academic resource which provides multiple services in order to guide students towards degree completion. One of the primary functions is to advise traditional undergraduate students on LACE General Education components, major/program curriculum, academic policies and processes, catalog requirements, and to serve as an intermediary with numerous campus partners. All incoming traditional undergraduate students will be assigned a (M)Power Advisor, who works in tandem with a Faculty Advisor, to guide and mentor students toward their baccalaureate degree completion in a timely manner. The Advisor closely collaborates with multiple offices/departments, to support and bolster student success, retention, student life engagement, and the overall Mount experience.

There is an official Advisement Period, each fall and spring semester (see Academic Calendar), in which students are required to meet with their assigned Advisor. The advisement appointment is the mandated opportunity for students to discuss their academic progress, degree/graduation requirements, course schedule for subsequent semesters, removal of their advising restriction, referrals to appropriate campus contacts, and to have a supportive dialogue for continued success on their academic pathway.  Additionally, throughout the year, Academic Advisement offers students' major/minor exploration coaching, placement exams, success sessions, Pre-Nursing workshops, transfer credit resource, including AP, CLEP, and IB credit, summer school information sessions, and a holistic, integrated approach to serving each unique student. Although the advisors make every effort to provide effective advisement and guidance for each student, it is ultimately the student’s responsibility to ensure that all processes are followed, and requirements fulfilled in accordance with the catalog year to which they entered the Mount.
