PSY 220 Mental Health and Well-Being

This course examines key concepts in mental health and mental illness. Students are introduced to a range of DSM diagnoses through the lens of support and referral, with particular emphasis on depression and anxiety. The course also explores strategies for fostering mental well-being across diverse service contexts, including higher education, non-profit agencies, and community organizations. Non-clinical approaches are emphasized, with attention to current and emerging well-being concepts informed by the latest research. Students apply foundational counseling theory concepts to develop support strategies at both the individual and programmatic levels.
