SWA 101 Introduction to the History, Language and Culture of Swahili

This class will introduce students to the language, history and culture of Swahili. By the end of the course, students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the origins, growth and spread of Swahili in East Africa, Africa and globally. Thought this course students will explore the role of individuals, communities and nations in the growth and adoption of Swahili as an international language, the lingua franca of Africans, and as one of the official languages of the UN and the AU. GE 5C.
