PHI 245 Bioethics & Film
In this course we examine films raising bioethical concerns impacting our lives and the society in which we live. Two approaches that we will take: (1) going from the film to assessing moral dilemmas that confront the characters , and (2) going from major ethical theories applied to the issues raised in the films. Movies we might examine include The Sea Inside (and euthanasia); The Doctor (and doctor-patient relations); Dirty Pretty Things (and organ sales); John Q (and access to healthcare); Regarding Henry (and disability); Dopesick (and opioid addiction); 4 Months, 3 weeks, and 2 Days (and abortion); and Extreme Measures (and human experimentation).
