RST 41 Spiritual Ethics: Introduction to 21st Century Ethics in a Dystopian World
This Spiritual Ethics course introduces students to questions like “How do I live an ethical professional, public, and personal life in a dysfunctional, dystopian, and immoral world? “What are legitimate boundaries and limits?” “What “moral” action can and should be taken against injustices stemming from racism, sexism, patriarchy, ageism, and classism, violence, and war?” “What should or shouldn’t be tolerated at work, in public or in private?” All of these are “ethical” questions we experience daily in the 21st Century. This course pays attention to issues in ethics and responsibilities that stem from the professions we want to exercise and the public and personal lives we hope to lead. We will use the tools provided by our spiritual and intellectual heritage (e.g., The Catholic
Intellectual Tradition, the CSJ Ethos, the U.N. Charter of Human Rights, etc.) to engage these issues. GE 5A or GE 5D.
