A student majoring in chemistry receives a comprehensive view of the principles of this science and participates in personalized laboratory instruction and individual research. A major in chemistry is excellent preparation for graduate studies, medical studies, health science careers, education, scientific writing, and careers in food, petroleum, and textiles.
Students may earn a minor, B.A., or B.S. degree in Chemistry. The B.A. degree in chemistry is designed for those interested in secondary science teaching, chemical technology, and other broadly-based careers requiring a science background.
All students enrolled in a laboratory course will be required to successfully complete safety training(s).
All students seeking a degree in Chemistry must achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.0 in major courses.
It is the Physical Sciences department and University policy that all lower division courses must be completed with a grade of C- or above, and all upper division major courses must be completed with a grade of C or above.
