Independent Research Course Policy
The Independent Research Course is student initiated and designed in collaboration with a faculty member. The faculty and student then work together toward predetermined goals and objectives of the research project. Department chairs must approve independent research course and faculty supervisor.
Guidelines for Independent Research:
Students assume the responsibility for planning and implementing a research project. They are responsible for working with a faculty member on the development, implementation, and/or analyses of a research project. The supervising faculty member trains, supervises, and mentors students involved in independent research. Students participate and execute major steps in a research project such as literature review, development of a project proposal, timeline for project completion, data collection and interpretation, presentation and publication of results. At the end of the semester, supervising faculty member along with the student evaluates the results of their project. Independent research guidelines may differ across disciplines.
