ENG 138 Rome in Film and Literature
The course will examine films and literature that foreground the city of Rome. We will visit the settings, studios, and real locations where some landmark Italian films were shot, and read excerpts from authors such as Keats, Shelley, Byron, and Goethe, who traveled to Rome to find inspiration in the city's ruins. We will trace these writers' footsteps through the city and read from their works, trying to understand what it is about the "Eternal City" that fascinated them. Meets only one: GE 5C Global or GE 6 Non-Linked.
