HIS 125 The Silk Roads

This course uses methods, theories, and frameworks from the field of World History to examine topics related to the “Silk Road(s)” from roughly the first century BCE to the twentieth century AD. Our focus will be the political, cultural, and material exchanges that occurred across the Eurasian continents. As such, the course will highlight examples of diffusion across traditional boundaries, including political, cultural, religious, linguistic, and geographic borders. Framing the course along a famous trade route affords us an opportunity to take a panoramic view of the past; to look at human interactions on a broad scale. GE5A or GE5C
