Sociology

Sociology is the study of human behavior within a multitude of contexts, from the family, school, community and workplace, to the regional, national, and global arenas.

The major prepares students for professional careers in a wide range of fields, such as working with youth and families, race/ethnic relations, human resources, community relations, and human rights advocacy. Sociology also provides an excellent foundation for graduate studies in youth counseling, marriage and family therapy, public policy, urban development, public health, human rights--nationally and internationally--and the law.

An important feature of the Mount Sociology Major is the infusion across the curriculum of human rights knowledge and principles as put forth in the U.N. Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).

In addition to the general program of study in Sociology, there is the option of three specializations within the major: Human Rights, Youth and Family Counseling, or Medical Sociology.
