EDU 236A DHH: Audiology Diagnostics

Through current evidence-based research and teaching this course focuses on the development of an understanding of audiology as it relates to the child with a hearing loss and to differentiate auditory accommodations for learners to access the curriculum. An introduction of anatomy and physiology will be followed by information on behavioral hearing testing of infants and young children and interpretation of audiograms. The fundamentals of objective tests such as tympanometry, otoacoustic emissions and auditory brainstem testing will also be presented, with additional information on testing children with additional disabilities (ASD, etc.). The course prepares beginning teachers to assume accountability for establishing, maintaining and demonstrating use of hearing technology and assist students and families in self-advocacy skills.
