SW 157 Foster Care, Kinship, & Child Welfare

This course prepares students for working in child welfare settings, public, private, and tribal, by building on their previous learning. Students learn how to assess strengths and risks, develop plans to ensure child safety and well-being, and promote family resources. This course also provides students with a holistic perspective on "at-risk" youth, including the ecological and societal factors that contribute to their risk. Students also learn about prevention, intervention, and treatment approaches, and how to view youth from a child-centered, strength-based family perspective.
