EDU 134 Introduction to Early Childhood Education: Principles and Practices

A study of the history, scope, and current principles and practices of programs for young children. Students will exam connections between theory and practice utilizing applied classroom experiences. This course will emphasize teaching strategies that support children in their physical, social-emotional, cognitive, language, and creative development, including child-child and adult-child relationships. Students will have the opportunity to receive a certificate in the use of the Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP) assessment tool, which is widely used in state-funded childcare programs and Early Head Start/Head Start programs in the state of California.
