HCA 233D Practicum: Current Topics in Healthcare

The course introduces students to the most current major health policy and health management trends affecting the American health system.  Because much of American health policies relates to or is implemented through payment systems, this class will place emphasis on the ways Americans pay for care and the relationship between payment structures, health needs, and health outcomes.  Topics will change accordingly each year as health law and industry strategies change to address the needs of patients, providers, organizations, and the health industry.  Some recent topics include interoperability in electronic health records, value-based purchasing, upskilling health workers, digital therapeutics, and connected care.
