MUS 169 Music Production

This course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of music production. While the course assumes only minimal requisite musical knowledge, students are expected to possess basic computer literacy skills. Topics covered include live sound recording and mixing techniques, including capturing live performances using microphones and other recording equipment, setting up sound systems, signal flow, and troubleshooting. Professional-level techniques in sound design, editing and mixing, advanced use of digital audio workstations (DAWs), audio effects processing, automation, and music production workflows will also be covered. Hands-on projects that will hone their skills in music production. Students will also have the option to create and produce their own music and soundtracks while applying the principles learned in class. These skills are crucial for anyone looking to work in the music industry, whether as a recording engineer, live sound technician, or producer. By the end of the course, students will have a comprehensive understanding of music production and be equipped with the technical skills to produce their own music and assist others in doing so.
