EXS 70 Intro to Research Methods in Exercise Science
Course Description: This introductory course provides students with a foundational understanding of research methods used in the field of exercise science. Emphasizing the scientific approach to studying physical activity, exercise, and health, students will learn the key principles and practices of designing, conducting, and interpreting research. Topics include the formulation of research questions, ethical considerations in human research, various research designs (such as experimental, observational, and correlational studies), data collection methods (e.g., surveys, fitness assessments, physiological measurements), and introductory statistical techniques for data analysis. By the end of the course, students will gain the necessary skills to critically evaluate existing research and will be prepared to engage in future research opportunities in exercise science.
Prerequisite
None, although prior coursework in exercise science or related fields is recommended.
