POL 104 Legal Writing

This course will introduce students to the basic principles of legal writing. Students will learn how to read and analyze legal authorities, how to identify relevant law, and how to apply the law to a given set of facts in order to draft persuasive arguments. Students will also learn to identify, analyze, and evaluate various common forms of legal writing, including memorandums and appellate briefs. These skills will prepare students for the case analysis methodology used in law school and for common law school writing assignments, and, more broadly, will strengthen students’ critical analysis, argumentation, and writing skills.
