PHI 200 Foundations of Moral Theory

In this course we examine the role values and beliefs play in our personal and professional lives and the importance of knowing why an action is ethical vs. merely knowing that it is ethical. We will explore the foremost ethical theories—Teleological (ends-focused) Ethics, Deontological (duty-focused) Ethics, Virtue Ethics, and Feminist Ethics. We will also look at their application to real-world issues and biomedical concerns and discuss key medical codes as those of the AMA, the WMA, and the ANA.
