PHI 220 Public Health Ethics

How do we decide health questions about the public as a whole? How do we allocate scarce resources? Should there be universal healthcare? Who decides, and by what standards? Should access to treatment rest on a birthday lottery like in the movie Contagion? Or should we prioritize by professions like medical personnel or by age, health status, or social worth, and so on? With a shortage of vaccines and protective gear, who gets what? We will look at the ethics of public health, including what to do when the supply falls sort of the demand. What do we owe one another? What sort of policies are in order?
