PHI 215 Nursing Bioethics

In this course we look at the ethical foundation of nursing set out in the ANA Code. Topics we cover may include ethical decision making, patient autonomy, informed consent, self determination, patient advocacy, paternalism, nurse-patient relations, confidentiality, privacy, justice in healthcare, limited access to resources, adolescent nursing ethics, nursing care of elders, and moral conflicts with the right to refuse or withdraw treatment. We will also consider such public health issues in a pandemic, such as allocation of personnel and resources, and whether there is a duty to treat.
