PHI 210 Global Bioethics

If it was once possible to live at a distance from others around the world, it is no longer the case—many of the ethical issues we face are on a global scale. In this class we consider the role of values in medical decision making. Of central concern are the important aspects of bioethical globalization, namely the availability of ethical options not immediately apparent to us, and the sensitivity to ethical difference and how to thereby navigate situations better. Topics may include patient autonomy, honesty, the duty to treat, informed consent, medical experimentation, organ transplants, patient rights, and justice issues in healthcare and research.
