PSY 412 Clinical Psychopathology

This course focuses on child and adult psychopathology, including diagnosis, differential diagnoses, prevalence, etiology, maintenance, and basic treatment interventions of DSM-5 diagnoses in clinical psychology. Students will learn the DSM-5 and have an introduction to the ICD-10 and ICD-11 (effective January 2022) and noncategorical classification. Students will explore the clinical manifestations of the serious mental illnesses, including the schizophrenic- spectrum disorders, dissociative disorders, bipolar disorders, mood disorders, eating and feeding disorders, gender dysphoria, and paraphilic disorders. This course also examines the Cluster A personality disorders (e.g., paranoid, schizotypal, and schizoid) and Cluster B personality disorders (e.g., narcissistic, antisocial, borderline, and histrionic). Additionally, students will be introduced to the Cultural Formulation Interview (CFI) to understand diagnoses in a cultural context and what factors contribute to the manifestation and maintenance of various diagnoses.
