PHI 152 Knowledge, Gender, and Justice

This is a course in epistemology—the philosophical study of knowledge.  We begin by investigating traditional epistemological questions in the western tradition:  What is knowledge?  Do we have any knowledge?  How do we get knowledge? Then our focus shifts to questions that connect knowledge with issues of gender and justice, such as epistemic injustice (how knowledge can be a tool to perpetuate injustice or to advocate for justice), whether and how gender structures knowledge, and intersectionality and knowledge production. GE 5D.
