SW 115 Community Engagement

This course introduces students to the landscape of human and social services, including the diverse agencies, organizations, and community-based settings in which social workers practice. Students examine variations in services provided, populations served, organizational structures, and the roles and responsibilities of social workers within these settings. Emphasis is placed on understanding social welfare from a macro-level perspective and examining how social service systems respond to community needs. In addition to class meetings, students complete a community-based project that explores social welfare, community needs, and the role of social services within a broader community context.
