CRW 238 The Long Poem

The long poem is as old as poetry itself, from theOdysseyto the trilogy of Dante’sDivine Comedy.This course focuses on Modernist and Postmodern approaches to the form, and students will gain an understanding of how poets conceived of and executed the book-length poem in the twentieth and twenty-first century, as well as in earlier centuries. Students will also draft, workshop, and revise their own long poem during the course of the semester.
