CRW 277 Submitting your Screenplay for Grants, Labs, and Fellowships

Everyone’s path to becoming a professional writer in the film industry is different. But there’s one thing that all aspiring screenwriters have in common: they want someone to notice their work. That’s where grant competitions, screenwriting labs, and writing fellowships come into play. Submitting your work to institutions that offer tutelage, networking opportunities, and even press is a must-do for any aspiring screenwriter who hopes to have a career in the industry. It’s one out of many ways to get noticed and jumpstart your writing career. We will look at screenwriting applications from institutions like Sundance, Film Independent, and San Francisco Film Society to get an idea of what they are looking for from an aspiring writer and how to best prepare to submit your own work.
