CRW 299E Studies in Publishing: Editing

This course provides students with the tools necessary to become better editors of their own writing while enlarging their purview of editing in a professional setting.We’ll explore the different editorial positions – from magazine editors-in-chief to copy editors – as well as the different types of editing – from developmental edits to line edits. Writing exercises will focus on key craft elements that editors must master in order to hone a writer’s work, from characterization and point of view to syntax and pacing. Assignments will include discussion board posts and analytical papers rooted in critical theory, in addition to self-editing projects and peer edits of student work.
