EXS 102 Nutrition for Exercise and Sport
This course provides an in-depth exploration of the role of nutrition in enhancing athletic performance, supporting exercise recovery, and promoting overall health for individuals engaged in sports and physical activity. Students will examine the science of macronutrients (carbohydrates, proteins, and fats), micronutrients (vitamins and minerals), hydration, and supplements, and their impact on energy production, muscle repair, and endurance. Special attention will be given to the nutritional needs of athletes in various sports, including endurance, strength, and team sports, as well as considerations for different age groups, training intensities, and body composition goals. The course will also cover strategies for meal planning, timing, and supplementation to optimize performance, reduce the risk of injury, and accelerate recovery. Practical applications of nutrition for sport, including case studies and research analysis, will provide students with the tools to design nutrition programs tailored to athletes’ specific needs. This course is ideal for students pursuing careers in nutrition, dietetics, sports science, athletic training, or any field related to enhancing athletic performance and supporting optimal health through nutrition.
