EXS 195 Capstone/Senior Project in Women's Health and Fitness Management
The Capstone/Senior Project in Women’s Health and Fitness Management provides students with the opportunity to integrate and apply the knowledge and skills gained throughout their Exercise Science program, with a particular focus on women's health and fitness. This project involves independent research, program development, or a practical intervention addressing key issues related to women's health, such as exercise prescription, nutrition, fitness programming, mental health, pregnancy, postnatal fitness, and chronic disease management. Students will work under the supervision of a faculty mentor to design and implement a project, collect and analyze data, and present their findings. This course emphasizes the development of critical thinking, research, and professional skills, preparing students to become leaders in the field of women's health and fitness. This course is designed to allow students to demonstrate their ability to synthesize the skills and knowledge they've acquired, focusing specifically on women's health and fitness. It helps prepare them for careers in fitness training, health promotion, wellness coaching, and other roles related to women’s health management.
Learning Outcomes:
- Design and implement a health and fitness program specifically tailored to women’s health needs.
- Analyze and interpret data related to women’s health, fitness, and wellness outcomes.
- Develop evidence-based recommendations for improving women’s health through exercise and fitness management.
- Communicate effectively through both written and oral presentations of the project.
- Demonstrate professionalism and leadership skills in managing health and fitness programs for diverse populations of women.
Assessment:
- Written project report.
- Presentation of the project findings to faculty and peers.
- Practical component (e.g., conducting fitness assessments or leading group fitness sessions at MSMU Wellness Pavilion).
- Peer and faculty evaluation of project progress and final output.
Prerequisite
Completion of relevant core coursework in exercise science, kinesiology, and health management, fitness assessment, exercise physiology, and health promotion.
