EXS 170 Research Methods in Exercise Science

This course introduces students to the principles and methodologies used in research within the field of exercise science. Students will gain an understanding of the research process, from formulating hypotheses to analyzing and interpreting data. Topics covered include study design (e.g., experimental, observational, and longitudinal studies), ethical considerations in human research, data collection techniques (e.g., surveys, performance tests, physiological measurements), and statistical methods for analyzing research findings. Emphasis is placed on critical evaluation of existing research, understanding the strengths and limitations of different study designs, and applying research findings to improve exercise interventions and health outcomes. By the end of the course, students will be prepared to critically assess exercise science literature and contribute to evidence-based practice in the field.
