EXS 150B Advanced Clinical Reformer Pilates for Movement Re-education
This advanced-level elective course focuses on the use of the Pilates Reformer in clinical settings to facilitate movement re-education, rehabilitation, and performance enhancement. Students will build on foundational Pilates knowledge to explore how the Reformer can be used as a therapeutic tool to address musculoskeletal dysfunctions, improve mobility, strength, and postural alignment, and support injury recovery. The course will emphasize advanced techniques, including customized Reformer exercises to correct movement imbalances, increase joint stability, and restore functional movement patterns. Students will gain hands-on experience using the Reformer in clinical settings, learning how to assess clients' needs and create individualized Pilates programs that promote long-term movement health. Special focus will be given to working with clients who have chronic pain, post-surgical recovery needs, or neurological conditions. Through lab-based exercises, case studies, and practical assessments, students will gain the skills necessary to apply advanced Reformer Pilates for effective movement rehabilitation.
